This handbook serves as a guide to identify some of the common parasitoids and predators affecting bagworms and nettle caterpillars in Peninsular Malaysia. It has to be noted that the whole range of natural enemies for each particular pest species may not be covered here. Nevertheless, the parasitoids and predators listed in this handbook are the most commonly encountered, based from PORIM records. The host species and their corresponding parasitoids and predators are listed in Table 1. These relatively small insects play a significant role in regulating the pest populations in the field. It is hoped that this information will be useful to planters in identifying these predators and parasitoids in their plantations. Planters thereby, have to provide suitable environments to establish the population of these beneficial insects. Careful application and selective use of insecticides are also important so as not to cause any adverse effect on the population of the beneficial insects.

Buku panduan ini berfungsi sebagai panduan untuk mengenal pasti beberapa parasitoid dan pemangsa biasa yang mempengaruhi ulat cacing dan ulat ulat di Semenanjung Malaysia. Perlu diperhatikan bahawa pelbagai musuh alami untuk setiap spesies perosak tertentu mungkin tidak dilindungi di sini. Walau bagaimanapun, parasitoid dan pemangsa yang disenaraikan dalam buku panduan ini adalah yang paling biasa ditemui, berdasarkan rekod PORIM. Spesies tuan rumah dan parasitoid dan pemangsa masing-masing disenaraikan dalam Jadual 1. Serangga yang kecil ini memainkan peranan penting dalam mengawal selia populasi makhluk perosak di padang. Diharapkan maklumat ini berguna kepada penanam untuk mengenalpasti pemangsa dan parasitoid ini di ladang mereka. Penanam oleh itu, perlu menyediakan persekitaran yang sesuai untuk menentukan populasi serangga yang bermanfaat ini. Permohonan yang berhati-hati dan penggunaan racun serangga secara selektif juga penting agar tidak menyebabkan sebarang kesan buruk terhadap populasi serangga yang bermanfaat.
